AJR Brothers: 'The Click' Charts in the top 20
AJR Brothers’ new album “The Click” is their sophomore album, making them chart better than ever. Their lead single off their album is called “Weak” which reached the top Ten on Itunes along with their EP. Their EP called “What Everyone’s Thinking” says it all for what their goals for this album were. They wanted to write and produce something entirely unique , which is the concept behind ‘The Click’. Each and every song is about a topic that they believe you haven't heard discussed in any other musical artist’s songs.
“The Click” Is composed of thirteen songs including songs from the EP, which was very successful on the billboard charts. They start off the album with their notorious overture, which is essentially a mash up of the entire album condensed into three and a half minutes. They started their last album similarly with an overture, giving you a feeling of the album. Songs on this album range from songs inspired by classical pieces and nostalgia, to songs that are energetic and fast paced.
Each of these songs has a unique theme to their lyrics. “The Good Part” questions if they’re at the peak of their career. “Sober up” is reminiscent of their childhood, particularly in the lyric: “Last time I saw your face, was recess in second grade, and it made me feel young”. The song “Three Thirty” dives into feelings about their career and all of the pressure to make a song fit a perfect three minutes and thirty seconds. “Weak” was the song that stuck out to a lot of people for not only its catchiness but it's down to earth nature. The mentality is essentially that being weak, giving into your temptations, and being human is okay and wonderful. Each song is so original and down to earth, their fans adored it. It was personal, and relatable, something everyone loves in music.
This album was another stop on their musical discovery journey, and they’re testing out new methods and new ways of producing and expanding themselves. With their first album “Living Room” they experimented with a lot with beats and spoke step which turned out incredible as well but different “The click” has a lot of the spoke step and energy that was in “Living room” but with lyrics that are close to their hearts and their personalities. That was the aim for the album, for it to be unique and the lyrics to be relatable but not predictable. Personally that's why I believe this album has been so successful because there were so many songs that I know can greatly be related too by millennials in general which is mainly teenagers and young adults.
It’s relatable, it’s unique, and it’s danceable. Those three components are attention grabbers, because people want to hear something that first sounds good, but isnt just like everyone else on the radio. On top of that it really grabs someone's attention if they hear words that make them think “wow, i've been through that too”. AJR Prides themselves on being weirdly themselves, which shows in their album that they are a hundred percent true to themselves. They've even said “ ‘weird’ is not the new ‘cool’... weird has always been f*cking cool” which explains who they are in a nutshell.
